How to make our cinnamon swirl Dung balls at home
Have you ever wondered if you could recreate your favourite protein balls in your own kitchen? Good news, you can! While nothing beats the convenience of grabbing one of our perfectly balanced, ready-to-go snacks, sometimes it’s fun to get hands on and whip up a batch yourself.
Whether you're experimenting with ingredients, want a weekend activity, or just ran out of your usual stash, making your own version at home is a great way to stay fuelled with real, simple ingredients.
In this post, we’re sharing a super simple DIY version of one of our popular protein balls, Cinnamon swirl. It features the same wholesome ingredients you know and love, like dates, cashews, pea protein, and of course, a delicious hint of cinnamon and orange. It’s easy, no-bake, and only takes about 10 minutes. Let’s get rolling!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 cup Medjool dates (10–12, pitted)
- 1/2 cup cashews (unsalted)
- 1/4 cup pea protein crisps (or if you don't have any, puffed rice for the same crunchy texture, just less protein)
- 2 tbsp pea protein powder
- 1 tbsp flaxseeds (whole or ground)
- 3 tbsp date syrup
- 1 tsp orange zest (for natural orange flavor)
- 2 tbsp cocoa nibs (optional, for crunch)
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
How to make them:
- Soften the dates: Soak in warm water for 10 minutes if they’re dry, then drain.
- Blend dry base: In a food processor, pulse cashews, flaxseeds and cinnamon until crumbly.
- Add wet ingredients: Add the dates, pea protein powder, date syrup, orange zest, and sea salt. Blend until the mixture forms a sticky dough.
- Stir in crisps: Move to a bowl and mix through the pea protein crisps (or puffed rice) and cocoa nibs.
- Shape: Scoop out about 1 tablespoon per ball and roll. You’ll get around 10 balls.
- Chill and store: Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes to set. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
